How to Buy Korean Products From Abroad: 4 Ways to Shop
Buy Korean products from abroad via global sites, marketplaces, shipping forwarders or personal shoppers, plus duty and shipping tips and a seller checklist.

Key takeaways
- There are four ways to buy Korean products from abroad: global shipping from Korean online stores, global marketplaces, shipping forwarders, and buying agents or concierges.
- Before ordering, check your country's import rules and duties. The US has ended its de minimis exemption, and the EU charges duty on low-value parcels from July 2026.
- Consolidating orders and shrinking box size alone can cut international shipping costs. If you're a seller, start with export declarations and local product rules.
If you live outside Korea and want Korean cosmetics, fashion or music albums, you have more options than you might think. But buying Korean products from abroad takes some homework: each store ships to different countries and accepts different payment methods, and you also need to weigh your own country's import rules and duties.
This guide covers four ways to buy Korean products as an overseas shopper, what to check before you order and how to save on shipping. At the end, there's also a checklist for Korean sellers getting ready to sell abroad. For the concept of reverse direct purchase (역직구) and the latest statistics, start with what reverse direct purchase is.
4 Ways to Buy Korean Products From Abroad, Compared
| Method | How you buy | Pros | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global shipping from Korean stores | Order from a Korean retailer's or brand's global site | Official seller; supports overseas payment and shipping | Which countries it ships to; whether it carries the same products as the Korean site |
| Global marketplaces | Order from Korean sellers on Amazon, Shopee and others | Familiar payment, shipping and reviews | Seller details and authenticity information |
| Shipping forwarder | Have it delivered to a Korean address, then the forwarder ships it abroad | Lets you use Korea-only online stores | Whether Korean payment and identity verification are possible; restricted items |
| Buying agent or concierge | Describe what you want, and the agent finds or buys it for you | You can hand off language, payment and judging sellers | Fees; what the agent covers |
Buying Through Korean Stores' Global Shipping
The simplest route is the global site of a Korean online store that ships internationally. For example, Olive Young Global ships Korean beauty products to many countries, and MUSINSA Global Store offers region options including Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, several Southeast Asian countries, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Shipping destinations can change at any time, though. At the time of writing, Olive Young Global's site states that it does not ship to the United States (the 50 states and Washington, D.C.). Before ordering, check that your country is on the shipping list and what the free-shipping threshold is.
Finding Korean Sellers on Global Marketplaces
You can also find Korean sellers' products on the marketplaces you already use. Amazon runs a Global Selling program that helps Korean sellers enter its marketplaces in North America, Japan, Europe, Australia, India and the Middle East (Amazon Global Selling), and Shopee opens its markets in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Brazil and Mexico to Korean sellers (Shopee Korea).
The upside is that you keep the payment, shipping and review systems you already know. But the same product is often sold by several sellers, so compare seller details, ratings and authenticity information carefully.
Getting Korean Products via Shipping Forwarders and Personal Shoppers
If a product is only sold on Korea-only online stores, you can use a shipping forwarder (배송대행). The product is delivered to the forwarder's address in Korea, and the forwarder consolidates it and ships it abroad. Many Korean stores, however, require Korean mobile phone identity verification or a Korean-issued card, so you may get stuck at the ordering stage.
If ordering is difficult, or you're not even sure what to buy, a buying agent or shopping concierge is the better fit. With Feelbetter, you describe what you want in words, a link or a single photo and leave your email. AI turns your request into a brief, and a human concierge finds sellers in Korea and abroad and emails you a verified purchase link within 60 minutes. The site is available in English, Korean, Japanese and Spanish, and no sign-up is needed.
Before You Order: Your Country's Import Rules and Duties
Even products that sell without a problem in Korea may face different import requirements in your country. Rules for cosmetics, food, dietary supplements, medicines and electronics containing batteries vary by country, so it's safest to check guidance from your local customs office or the relevant authority before you order.
- Cosmetics, food and dietary supplements: Depending on ingredients, labeling and quantity, even personal imports may be restricted or require extra documents.
- Products with built-in batteries: Air transport rules are strict. Korea Post's international mail service says it cannot ship lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries or electronic devices containing them, so check your shipping method first (Korea Post EMS).
- Duties and taxes: Low-value duty-free thresholds differ by country and have recently changed significantly in the US and the EU.
| Region | What changed | What it means for buyers |
|---|---|---|
| United States | From August 29, 2025, the US ended the duty exemption for low-value imports of US$800 or less, regardless of country, and guidance updated in September 2026 says this remains in place indefinitely (CBP). | Even small orders may incur duties and other taxes. |
| EU | From July 1, 2026, parcels worth €150 or less are charged a €3 duty per tariff classification item. It's a temporary measure until July 1, 2028 (European Commission). | The seller or importer pays it, but it may be built into prices. Several units of the same item mean €3 once; if the parcel mixes items with different tariff classifications, €3 applies to each. |
Also check who pays duties, and when. Some stores collect duties at checkout, while in other cases the carrier bills you separately when the package arrives. Just look at whether the checkout page says duties are included.
Payment Methods and How to Save on International Shipping
Paying is easiest on global sites that accept foreign-issued cards and international digital wallets. Your card's currency conversion fees can differ depending on whether you're charged in Korean won or your own currency, so check the displayed currency before you pay.
Shipping costs depend on both the weight and the size of the box. DHL Express compares the actual weight with the volumetric weight and charges whichever is greater, and volumetric weight is length × width × height (cm) divided by 5,000 (DHL).
- Order in one go: Order from the same store at once to reduce the number of boxes. If there's a free-shipping threshold, fill your cart up to that amount.
- Shrink the box: If you use a forwarder, check whether it offers removing excess packaging or repacking.
- Compare shipping methods: Choose between fast express couriers and cheaper postal services based on weight and when you want it to arrive.
- Consolidation and taxes: Combining several orders into one box lowers shipping costs, but the larger amount declared at once may push you over a duty threshold.
Example scenario
How changing just the box size changes volumetric weight
A hypothetical example applying DHL Express's volumetric weight formula.
- 1Six skincare products have an actual weight of 1.5kg.
- 2Packed in a box 40cm long, 30cm wide and 20cm high, the volumetric weight is 40×30×20÷5,000 = 4.8kg, so you're charged on 4.8kg, which is more than the actual weight.
- 3Repack the same products in a 30×20×15cm box and the volumetric weight drops to 1.8kg.
The chargeable weight falls from 4.8kg to 1.8kg. That's why you should check box size too when you consolidate orders.
Checklist for Korean Sellers Selling Abroad
As overseas buyers grow in number, more Korean sellers are considering selling abroad. Reviewing the items below before you take your first overseas order can save you a lot of trial and error.
- Destination countries and restricted items: List the items you can't ship to each country, along with restricted items such as batteries, liquids and sprays.
- Export declaration: In August 2024, the Korea Customs Service raised the threshold for simplified e-commerce export declarations from ₩2 million to ₩4 million. Simplified declarations still count as export performance and receive the same duty drawback benefits (Korea Policy Briefing).
- Local product rules: For example, under the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), the US requires registration of cosmetic manufacturing and processing facilities and listing of products (FDA).
- Duty information: In markets where low-value duty exemptions have changed, such as the US and the EU, state on product pages and at checkout who pays duties, and when.
- Payments and currency: Check whether you support foreign cards and local-currency pricing.
- Return and exchange policy: Decide in advance who pays for overseas returns and where items should be sent back to.
- Customer service languages: Prepare product information and FAQs in the languages most of your inquiries come in.

Frequently asked questions
What's the easiest way to buy Korean cosmetics from abroad?
The simplest option is the global site of a Korean store that ships to your country. Shipping destinations can change, so check the list of countries before you order, and if the product you want isn't available, consider a marketplace or a buying agent or concierge.
Do products bought from Korea incur duties?
It depends on the rules of the destination country. The US ended its duty exemption for low-value imports of US$800 or less on August 29, 2025, and from July 1, 2026, the EU charges a €3 duty per item category on parcels worth €150 or less.
Can I have Korean electronics with batteries shipped abroad?
It depends on the shipping method. Korea Post's international mail service says it cannot ship lithium batteries or devices containing them, so first check whether an express courier will accept the item and what your country's rules are.
